What is Soroptimist International?
Soroptimist is a volunteer organization working together to ensure women and girls have the resources and opportunities they need to achieve their full potential and live their dreams.

Advocating for human rights and gender equality, at the heart of Soroptimist International's advocacy is its work across eight UN Centers, where our UN representatives ensure that the voices of women and girls are heard.

Our members work on grassroots projects that help women and girls achieve their individual and collective potential, realize aspirations, and have an equal voice in communities worldwide.

Soroptimist was formed in 1912 in Oakland, California, at a time when women were not permitted to join service organizations. Our name, loosely translated from Latin, means best for women. Today, we have over 25,000 members and supporters in countries across North America, Latin America and the Pacific Rim. We are one of five federations that make up Soroptimist International, which has clubs in more than 120 countries throughout the world.
